Legendary landscape photographer, mountaineer, and Bishop local Galen Rowell spent a lifetime chasing extraordinary light and fleeting wilderness moments. While his work took him across the globe, from Patagonia to Tibet, the Sierra Nevada remained close to his heart.
As Rowell wrote, "I've known all along that more of what I am seeking in the wilds is right here in my home state of California than anywhere else on earth."
We're proud to showcase his vision of the Sierra Nevada right here in the place he called home.
For more than 50 years, Beverly Schroeder has used photography to celebrate the beauty of the natural world. Inspired by nature since childhood, she approaches each image as an opportunity to capture the spirit of a landscape, seascape, wild creature, or historic place, going beyond what is seen to reveal what is felt.

Master wood carver Lance Stanislaw has spent more than 40 years crafting works inspired by the landscapes and wildlife of the American West. His journey has taken him from the Alpine slopes of Switzerland to Lake Tahoe and ultimately the high peaks of the Eastern Sierra, where he is now based in Mammoth Lakes.
Specializing in hand-carved scenes that celebrate the region's natural beauty, Lance's artistry creates a lasting first impression at Wayfinder Bishop. His custom-carved front desk welcomes every guest with a tribute to the landscapes, wildlife, and spirit of the Eastern Sierra.
After spending 26 years teaching art, Lynn Marit Peterson turned her full attention to watercolor, a medium that continues to inspire her every day. Surrounded by the ever-changing landscapes of the Eastern Sierra, she finds endless inspiration in the region's shifting light, colors, and contours.
Through her work, Lynn captures the beauty and character of the natural world, translating fleeting moments into vibrant watercolor scenes. Her paintings can be found in the breakfast room at Whistling Trout, bringing the spirit of the Eastern Sierra to the start of each day.
Karma Henry is a Paiute, Italian, and Portuguese artist whose work explores the connections between place, experience, and pattern. A member of the Great Basin Native Artists (GBNA), she draws inspiration from the landscapes and cultural traditions of the region, weaving together basketry designs, natural materials, architectural details, and geometric forms.
Through layered imagery and thoughtful composition, Karma creates pieces that reflect both memory and landscape, inviting viewers to see familiar places in new ways. Her artwork can be found throughout our guest rooms, offering a meaningful connection to the people, stories, and traditions of the Great Basin.
Based in Big Pine, California, Courtney Bagby works across a variety of mediums, including oil painting, block printing, digital design, and handcrafted art. Inspired by the natural world, her work reflects the beauty, mystery, and quiet moments found in the landscapes and wildlife of the Eastern Sierra.
